THE HISTORY OF ST PATRICE
The origin of the name St Patrice dates back to the 18th century under Jean De Power, ambassador of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines in Ireland. The centuries have shaped the plots of Domaine St Patrice, especially its Clos. The exceptional work of the Julian family together with Samuel Montgermont has resulted in the creation of true art pieces. Samuel tasted the wines in 2014 and was instantly won over. For him, the Saint Patrice wines bring together all the best qualities that the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation has to offer: finesse, balance, strength, and minerality.
MONOPOLY
In 1838, Clos Saint Patrice was known as one of the best Châteauneuf-du-Pape plot « in the 1838 Vaucluse directory ». Several writings attest to the reputation of the Clos and it was qualified as the oldest Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine in the 1920s. The Clos Saint Patrice plot is located at the very heart of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, on an area called Saint-Patrice. It has a great view of the castle which has been dominating the village and its vineyard for over 800 years. The Clos covers 1.8 ha and is made up of old Grenache and Mourvèdre vines from ancestral massal selection, regularly added with certified high quality grape plants.
CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE FROM THE DOMAINE
Following in the Clos footsteps, Châteauneuf du Pape from the Domaine is a fine, elegant and pure wine. It is made from the prestigious "lieux-dits" of the appellation: Cabrière, le Pied Long, les Terres Blanches, les Gallimardes and les Marines. Our vines grow peacefully and take full advantage of the richness offered by the diversity of the terroirs: sandy-clay soils with a predominance of white clay, red clay covered with rolled pebbles but also with limestone and a few touches of yellow clay make up the solid base. Careful attention is given to soils and each plot is being tended to with respect for the Earth and its cycle. These grapes become exceptional juices thanks to the blend of diverse soils and grape varieties (Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah). Strengthened by their know-how, the St Patrice team takes heart to creating a rare and ambitious Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
A SHARP AGRICULTURE
Domaine St Patrice is farmed according to organic principles and thrives to the rhythm of the team’s high standards and precision.
They have always been attentive to the soil and their vines, using traditional techniques and no chemicals.
With experience and time, their know-how allows them to perfectly master each grapevine. The old methods such as plowing, making furrows, and plowing down the vines prevail at St Patrice. The grapes are exclusively harvested by hand before being carefully sorted.
The winemaking process is gentle and natural, based on the principle of infusion.
